About
Jen Hall Smith is a writer living by the sea with her family on the south east coast of England.
Her career and creative outlets up until two years ago, were mainly focused towards songwriting and floristry.
However after being diagnosed with a cluster of conditions in a very short time (chronic auto immune disease, fibromyalgia and combined ADHD) it became obvious that changes would need to be made in order to accommodate the new normal.
A slower pace of life was adopted but the burning desire to create still lingered. A friend suggested that Jen begin writing down her experiences and she soon rediscovered a love of writing. Initially writing short, funny observational pieces regarding, illness, motherhood and neurodivergence, the beginnings of a fictional novel began tugging at the corners of her mind. Characters began to appear on the page and soon a story, she had no intention of writing, poured out. Putting to use her years as a lyricist and a lifetime of devouring books like Johnny five from Short Circuit (apologies for the very niche eighties reference)
Jen is passionate about neurodivergent and mental health representation in her work. Often delving into the complex emotional challenges brought on by internalised ableism and the journey to self discovery and acceptance. She is particularly interested in the lost generation of women, who are now being diagnosed after a lifetime of being misunderstood due to medical misogyny and would love to one day put together an anthology detailing different women’s experiences regarding this.
Jen is now querying her first novel and seeking representation.
